What I love most is that kids are the most motivated patients you'll ever meet. They aren't interested in the drama of being sick; they just want to know when they can go back to the playground. Helping them get back to those 'kid moments' gives me a sense of purpose that I haven’t found anywhere else.

I build rapport with families by acknowledging that they are the experts on their child. I make it a point to say, 'You know them better than anyone; tell me what you're seeing at home.' This builds immediate trust because they feel heard, not just lectured. I also try to involved the child in their care such as asking them what hurts or questions they have.
