Whether you just delivered a newborn baby or your child needs specialty care, MD Kids Pediatrics is here to help — even when you’re receiving care outside of our offices. We work closely with specialist doctors and local hospitals to make sure your child gets the right care, including the smooth transition of medical records and treatment plans once their hospital stay is over.
Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! At the hospital, you can expect your newborn to receive care from a pediatrician or a pediatric hospitalist (a primary care physician who works exclusively in a hospital environment). Though we make rounds at many hospitals, this pediatric doctor may or may not work for us, based on the rules in place by the hospital where you deliver.
However, you can see any pediatrician you want after you leave the hospital. Seeing a pediatrician post-delivery employed by a hospital doesn’t guarantee you better care — instead, you can pick a pediatrician based on the services they offer, their quality of care, their proximity to your home, and other personal factors.
You will need to schedule your first pediatric visit within 48 hours after you get home from the hospital — and MD Kids Pediatrics makes it simple! No parent ever wants their child to spend time in a hospital, but it does happen. As an MD Kids Pediatrics patient, we’ll work hard to make sure you get access to the specialty care your child needs and deserves — whether that means working with your insurance plan to get approval or finding pediatric specialists in your community who can help.
Even when your child is receiving care elsewhere, the MD Kids Pediatrics team is still by your side, collaborating with the hospital’s specialty care team to ensure that we get copies of all your child’s medical records. We also help transition your child’s care back to the primary care environment as soon as their treatment is complete.
