What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
My favorite animated movie is The Incredibles!!
What is your favorite children's book?
The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss. Fun to read and does have hidden messages.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
My favorite childhood toys were dump trucks and Tonka trucks of any kind!!
Who is your greatest inspiration?
Any child that is going thru Cancer Treatment. Their attitudes are inspiring along with their hopes and dreams. Makes my problems look mundane and irrelevant!!
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
My hobbies and interests include woodworking, Disney trips, and riding my Harley through back roads with my wife riding along with me.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I started out as a Pharmacist having graduated from UT Austin in 1974; did my tour of duty with the US Army from 74-76 with 4 more years of Reserve duty. Honorable discharge with the rank of Captain in 1980. Hated pharmacy and decided to do something about it by going back to medical school, but thru Mexico. Passed the ECFMG exam to get back to the states and intended to be an Adult Cardiologist, however, when I did my Pediatric rotation during my internship, I fell in love with the kids and helping them get thru their illnesses and it did NOT feel like "work". Changed my goal to Pediatrics and the rest is history. 38 WONDERFUL YEARS NOW!!
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I put myself in the parent's position and treat each child as if they were my own! I include the parent's concerns if they present them and thoroughly explain the goal(s) of therapy along with answering their questions. Being a pharmacist also allows the use of my expertise with medications in treating illnesses.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
Our office is made to accommodate patients with special needs whenever possible.
