Q&A with McKenzie

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

My favorite movie is the classic, Toy Story. I enjoyed watching it as a child and now I get to enjoy it with my own children.

What is your favorite children's book?

My favorite children's book is "Oh the Places You Will Go" by Dr. Seuss. I think this is a great story about the ups and downs of life with encouragement to face everything face on.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

I could play Barbies all day long with my twin sister growing up. My grandfather built us a custom Barbie house with carpet and wallpaper left over from home projects. It was beautiful and I know he was happy to see us get so much joy from playing with it.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

My mother was my greatest inspiration. She was a PE teacher and poured her entire energy into coming up with new games or activities to make school fun. She also loved on every kid that walked through the door and knew them by name. I hope to be as compassionate and caring as she was ever day.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I enjoy taking walks with my two children and exploring San Antoino. In my personal time, I enjoy sewing and doing puzzles.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

Pediatrics is unique in that I get to build relationships with the whole family and watch children grow up and be successful. I love seeing the little babies become toddlers and then those toddlers start school. The personalities also are highlighted at every visit and make my day better.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

My strength as a provider is my ability to listen and understand the needs of my patients. Most parents are navigating parenthood, vaccine schedule and childhood illnesses for the first time and I love encouraging families through these milestones.

How do you accommodate patients with special needs?

All children are welcome at our clinic.
