Q&A with Dr. Vivas

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

My favorite animated movies are Frozen and The Lion King.

What is your favorite children's book?

A favorite of mine is Where the Wild Things Are. It celebrates imagination while also showing the importance of love and home, which resonates with so many children and parents alike.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

My favorite childhood toy was Legos.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

My greatest inspiration is my mom. Growing up, I watched her devote herself fully to caring for our family with patience, compassion, and resilience. She always reminded me that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. As a pediatrician, I carry those lessons with me every day—whether I’m comforting a child who’s scared, supporting a worried parent, or celebrating a milestone in a child’s growth. My mom taught me what it means to truly care for others, and that inspires how I approach medicine and my patients.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I really value staying active and balanced. I enjoy yoga for its mindfulness, cycling—always with a helmet—for both fitness and safety, skiing in the winter, and more recently I’ve taken up running. I also love healthy cooking, which ties into my interest in wellness, and most importantly, I enjoy spending quality time with my family.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

What inspired me to work in pediatrics is the opportunity to help children build the foundation for a healthy future. I believe strongly in the power of preventive care—guiding families on nutrition, safety, development, and healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Pediatrics allows me to not only care for children when they’re sick, but also to partner with families in making proactive steps toward wellness, so each child has the best chance to thrive as they grow.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

One quality that sets me apart is that I am a native Spanish speaker, which allows me to connect directly and meaningfully with Spanish-speaking families without the barrier of translation. Beyond language, I focus on building trust by listening carefully, explaining things clearly, and partnering with parents in decision-making. With children, I make visits playful and engaging so they feel comfortable. My goal is always to create a supportive, welcoming environment where families feel heard, respected, and empowered in their child’s care.
