What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
CrossFit, soccer, watching soccer games or football games, spending time with family and friends, and great food
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
Children are unique in the sense that you get an unfiltered version of who they are. When they are young, you get to see their true personality and their wants. When you develop a relationship with them, you get to see them grow and they can trust you with their care. Seeing them thrive as young adults is the best gift they can give you back.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I try to connect with each kid individually. Every child is different and finding out who they are and their likes is so interesting to me. This helps me to see their worldview and how they can be motivated to have healthy habits. Understanding the stage of life a child is in and their interests is crucial to connecting with them and building rapport
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
First having the child feel comfortable by addressing them at their level. Second being able to asses their medical conditions and establishing a baseline so as to know what they can do physically and cognitively for example. Then it is up to what is needed from the medical exam. An autistic child may not need a head to toe exam if he is at the office for a behavior concerns for example. A child with global developmental delay can be examined on his wheelchair or on a stroller if need be.
