Q&A with Dr. Quiroz Armenta
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
The Little Mermaid
What is your favorite children's book?
Junie B Jones because I thought they were funny and fun to read growing up.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Coloring books
Who is your greatest inspiration?
My parents because they always believed I should reach for the stars and believed in my potential of becoming a doctor even before I did.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I enjoy reading, playing tennis, exploring coffee shops, and going on vacation (beach is my favorite).
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I find working with children fun and rewarding. I know parents have their child's best interest at heart so I value the collaborative effort to keep their kids as healthy as possible.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I emphasize getting to know children and their families because I want to build a lasting, trusting relationship. I take extra time teaching parents about normal development and anticipatory guidance but also prioritize explaining the pathophysiology of disease so that parents understand why medications are needed or not needed and what to expect. I am also bilingual which helps me connect with my Spanish-speaking families.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
I trained in a large institution with all the sub-specialists and chronic care available and was able to see the care that kids with special needs typically benefit from. I understand the need to have referrals placed and importance of coordination with sub specialists.
