Q&A with Jeremy

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

Avatar: The Last Airbender

What is your favorite children's book?

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, by Mo Willems
I used to read this to my children when they were little. It encourages interactive storytelling, teaches boundaries, saying "No", but also the power of persuasion. We had a lot of fun with it.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

I loved Tonka trucks, Stompers, GI Joe, Transformers, and Star Wars action figures.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

My wife Katrina inspires me because she has been my tireless supporter through our years in the military, while I was recovering from wartime military servicenas a medic, while I studied in school and she was basically a single parent, and she has been the driving force in keeping our family happy and healthy. Now our children are adults and our family is very close. It is all thanks to her influence and support. I try to follow her example to be patient and kind, even when I am tired from a long day.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Traveling, hiking and being in nature, spotting wildlife, birdwatching, fishing on fly rods, spinning rods, and deep sea fishing, going to the beach, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

The reason I chose pediatrics is because I love building relationships with families and being present for the growth and development of my patients from their newborn visit to the day they bring their own children back to see me. I feel fulfilled at the end of the day working in pediatrics because I am providing parents with the reassurance and education to build their confidence in providing the best care they can for their own children. Supporting the health and development of my patients while relying on the best and most current medical evidence is what I strive to achieve every day.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

I provide a team approach to healthcare, incorporating the needs and preferences of the family when formulating a treatment plan for a patient. We discuss options and I listen to the parents for their opinion on what they would like to do, while providing my reccommendations based on current medical evidence and American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines.

How do you accommodate patients with special needs?

I am experienced in treating patients with special needs, special equipment and nutritional needs. My approach is to stay in communication with the specialists and the families to keep their renewals and orders on track with minimal care gaps.
