What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
Choosing to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner was a deeply personal decision rooted in my own childhood. Growing up alongside two sisters who also faced multiple chronic illnesses, I spent a significant amount of time navigating the healthcare system from a young age. Those early experiences taught me that chronic illness impacts the entire family, not just the patient. Today, I use that lived experience to provide empathetic, holistic care, ensuring that my patients and their families never feel alone on their medical journeys.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
What sets me apart as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is a profound, firsthand understanding of what it means to grow up with complex medical needs. Having navigated multiple chronic illnesses during my own childhood alongside my sisters, I do not just understand pediatrics academically—I understand it emotionally, logistically, and personally. I know exactly what it feels like to be the child in the exam room, and I know the heavy toll a diagnosis takes on the entire household. My unique value proposition is turning that lived experience into a clinical superpower, offering patients a provider who truly "gets it" from day one.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
I specialize in partnering with families to manage long-term, complex, or multi-system health conditions and their primary care needs which will always impact any chronic healthcare concern. The primary care foundation should be solid so as other diagnosis are added the best care can be given to the patient and their families. I focus not just on treating symptoms, but on minimizing the disruption of illness on a child’s schooling, social life, and development. During my graduate school training I became a pediatric nurse practitioner with a followship in diabetes and cancer and have worked much of my career in these specialties.
